Born and bred in the city of steel: Sheffield. I spent the majority of my ‘young’ years on the Northern Soul circuit. I mention this because it’s around this time and place that my first novel – Wood, Talc and Mr. J: We never had it so good… – is set. You’ll find the first two chapters by clicking on this lnk.

I fell in love with the idea of languages much later, particularly with French, and went on to gain a BA Hons in French Language and Literature at The University of Sheffield, where I was also able to incorporate Spanish. I’ve since added Italian and German to my repertoire.

Since then I’ve lived in numerous locations, including a ten year stretch in France, north and south, teaching English, occasionally specialising in Phonetics.

It was in France where I began to experiment with writing.

Since coming back to England in the mid-noughties, I’ve completed a Masters in Literary Translation at the UEA and been making my living through translation, proofreading and copyediting – as well as teaching Translation Studies at BA Hons level.
